Everybody needs take a moment to watch this video about how harmful sugar is to your health. Just recently, 60 Minutes aptly demonstrated how sugar internally affects your body and your biochemistry. Most people don’t truly understand the seriousness of sugar’s toxicity. They seem to blindly consume loads of sugar each in day. In fact, American’s drink and eat a whopping 1/3 lb of sugar per DAY – on average, some of you might be eating even more than 1/3 bag of sugar!

As you can see in the video, it should be no surprise to anybody that studies clearly relate excess sugar consumption to obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
You might argue that some natural sugars have always been in the human diet. It is true we consume natural sugars in small amounts from the fruit we eat. But, we are in a new time in history where we are exposed to massive amounts of added sugar in practically everything we eat:
- Sweetened drinks
- Candies
- Cakes
- Cookies
- Condiments
- Dressings
- Tomatoes sauces
As you can see in the video, the average American eats a sickening 130 lbs of sugar per person per year, or 1/3 lb per day! That’s just nasty! In my opinion, this is a huge indicator of how most people don’t respect their body. Many don’t even think about what they are putting in their bodies on a daily basis.
The video also mentions that in one controlled study, they replaced 25% of the daily calories of the subjects with sugary drinks, and took continual blood tests. The
results?
- Increase in participants dangerous small dense LDL particles in their blood which causes arterial plaque and heart disease from drinking 25% more sugary drinks.
Yes, in fact, sugar and carbs in general contribute more to heart disease than fats do.
In addition to the dangers of sugar, we now have a relatively new invention: high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Our bodies don’t know how to properly handle HFCS, but it is found in large quantities in almost every processed food product you can find the grocery store. Since the 1970s, as the video points out, HFCS consumption is clearly linked to increased heart disease and stroke risk.
One statement I don’t agree with in the video above is that sugar and HFCS are “the same.” While I agree that they are both terrible for your health and both sugar and HFCS are toxic, there are certainly big differences in how the bodyprocesses HFCS vs. table sugar or other forms of sugar. Did you notice that the video also talks about how sugar feeds tumors and can make cancer worse!? I have been telling people this for years!
In addition to make cancer grow, sugar activates reward centers in your brain. This stimulation makes sugar addictive, similar to drugs like cocaine. The part of the video where they do brain scans on him while he sips a sugary soda is definitely interesting.
One other thing… I don’t totally agree lumping honey and real maple syrup with table sugar and HFCS. The video labels these together as dangerous sugars. However, pure honey and real male syrup have at least additional micronutrients and antioxidants that sugar or HFCS don’t have. Honey is a better choice than sugar, though it should still be minimized in consumption.
Okay, really, I have one last thing to stay. This video also fails to mention that sugar is not the only culprit in causing heart disease, stroke or other diseases in the body. Breads, pastas, bagels, muffins, rice and other grain-based foods spike your sugar and can contribute to diabetes. For example, each piece of bread you eat is basically equivalent to eating about 20 grams of sugar since the response to your blood sugar and triglyceride levels is essentially the same.
The bottom line is that food manufacturers want you to be addicted to sugar. Sugar alters your brain so you continue to buy all of the junk foods and toxic sugary drinks which destroy your health.
But it’s time to take control of your health for yourself and not support these giant businesses who only care about their corporate profit and not about how they are destroying your health.
