P.S. Fittingly enough, last night — the night before I started this email —I had insomnia. I went to bed at around 11:00 p.m. and then played teeter totter with the couch and my bed until I fell asleep at 4:30 a.m.  I’ve been in a bit of a haze all day. Some insane part of me wants to sustain this level of exhaustion to punish the insomnia into submission to sleep. I’m already trying to game the insomnia. How will I wrest eight hours from its clutches tonight? How can I force myself to fall asleep by 11:00 p.m.? Yoga class? Herbal teas? Over-the-counter sleep medications?
