Are Colon Cleanses Dangerous?
Colon cleanses have gotten considerable bad press. Claims are being made that they are, “Dangerous, unhealthy and stressful to the body.“
Truth is that these statements are being said by mainstream medical professionals who prefer and promote prescription drugs over natural therapies and are not trained in natural alternatives. Most never take the time to learn or familiarize themselves with time-tested and proven alternative methods. It is funny to me that they can claim the dangers of colon cleansing, while prescription drugs kill 100,000 people a year – and that is when they are taken correctly. Shouldn’t these stats and proven dangers be making headlines?
Making A Mountain Out Of A Molehill
As with most natural therapies, I believe the mainstream medical community is making a mountain out of a molehill! Do colon cleanses have side effects? I am sure there might be a few. But, how many of these “bad reactions” happened because the cleanse was not followed correctly or the right state of health was not there to begin with? My guess is all of them.
I was educated about colon cleansing by working for the #1 cleansing company in the U.S. called Renew Life. They have an incredible reputation and their formulas were created by a renowned colon expert. This company has exploded with growth in the last 10 years because their products are changing people’s lives for the better!. The founder, Brenda Watson, is now on PBS television and has her own radio program. Though I am no longer an employee for Renew Life, I still regularly recommend their cleanses and have heard nothing but positive feedback from my clients.
Colon cleanses have so many benefits when used correctly, including weight loss. The proof is really in the pudding. Renew Life and many other reputable cleansing companies have THOUSANDS of happy customers.
Why Do A Colon Cleanse?
We live in environments filled with unavoidable toxins. They are in the water we drink, the food we eat and in the air we breathe. They are present in pharmaceutical drugs, metals, hormones and chemicals. Although our body is designed with seven elimination channels to remove these toxins, they often become overburdened and we need to help the process of elimination along with cleansing.
The colon functions to eliminate waste, but many of us do not have the necessary 1 to 3 bowel movements a day. It is not uncommon for someone to have 5+ pounds of fecal matter backed up in their colon. I have talked to many people who only have 1 to 2 bowel movements a week!! This is incredibly unhealthy and can create a toxic environment in the body that is perfect for the presence of disease – and even colon cancer – to thrive in.
Those who have completed colon cleanses often report feeling rejuvenated, more alert and even lose weight. Sometimes, skin issues resolve and depression and anxiety improve with use. Our gut has its own nervous system, manufacturing more serotonin (our “feel good” neurotransmitter) than our brain! It also contains healthy bacteria that help prevent illness with proper digestion and elimination. A healthy colon really is imperative to an overall healthy body!
Quality Is Key
It is very important to note that there are A LOT of colon cleanses available. Since natural health supplements are not regulated, it is important that you purchase from a reputable company. Always research the product before purchasing it read the reviews.
The colon cleanses I highly recommend are CleanseSMART or Organic Bowel Cleanse by Renew Life. For those who are a little apprehensive about colon cleansing, but would like to try it, I suggest First Cleanse by Renew Life.
I do know there are other reputable colon cleanses on the market, but I like to stick with what I know works. Visiting your local health food store and talking with their employees can help you make an informed decision on which cleanse to choose.
Please take only as directed. The proper dosage directions on the bottle are there for a reason and for your safety, having been researched for appropriate usage. If you have a lot of health issues, check with your health practitioner to see if colon cleansing is right for you.

[…] For a “cellular detox,” I recommend the homemade chicken broth three times per day and cinnamon tea in between. No food. This cleans the glycogen out of the cells and allows them to function normally. […]
I have also heard that some people can physically clean their colon versus taking oral colon cleanses, but the latter definitely seems more desirable! If one has regular bowel movements (daily), would you consider them to have a healthy colon? Or are there still benefits for these individuals to do a colon cleanse?
