Top 5 Pain Medications and their Adverse Side-effects
Are Pain Meds Safe?
Attention pain sufferers…
What dangerous drugs come to your mind? Cocaine? Meth? LSD? Heroin?
What about pain pills?
The deaths caused by adverse drug reactions from pain medications rank #4 on the list of leading causes of deaths in America – right after heart disease, cancer and strokes.
So, what does this mean?
It means if you have any pain medicine in your house, then you are at risk of dying. The risk you take with these pain medications is higher then dying from diabetes, lung disease or even from an accident. Reading this article could save your life.
This vital information is shocking, but the side-effects are a matter of life and death. Here are the 5 most dangerous pain medications.
#1 Dangerous Pain Medication: Cox-2 Inhibitors
Cox-2 inhibitors are commonly known as celebrex or celecoxib.
By picking up a prescription of celebrex, you triple your risk of heart attack!
The National Cancer Institute discovered celebrex as an anti-cancer drug:
Those taking 400mg doses had 250% greater risk of dying from heart attack or stroke…and those taking the 800mg doses has 340% times the risk!
Scary, isn’t it?
#2 Dangerous Pain Medication: NSAIDs
NSAIDs are commonly known as ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve and naproxen.
It is highly probably that if you have any kind of pain (joint pain, menstrual pain, headache, back pain or soreness), then you have been taking common NSAIDs like ibuprofen or commercial equivalents like Advil to deal with the pain.
Did you know that roughly 16,685 people die each year from NSAID related side-effect complications? The odds are 1 in 1,200 of dying after two months from gastrointestinal ulcers and bleeding.
#3 Dangerous Pain Medication: Opiate-based pain meds
Opiate-based pain medications are known as Cicodin, Lorcet, Norco, Percocet, Percodan, hydrocodone and oxycodone.
This class of pain medications is often used for pain after surgery, major body trauma or severe accident injury. Opiate-based pain meds can really “knock out the pain.”
Unfortunately, knocking out the pain has its consequences!
Approximately 16,000 people have died in the United States in one year from drug overdoses. Most were caused by opiates. In 2002…deaths from prescription opiate overdoses had nearly doubled.
That is just a “minor” adverse drug reaction to be concerned about!
#4 Dangerous Pain Medication: Acetaminophen
Acetaminophens are commonly known as Tylenol or acetaminophen.
Many over-the-counter drugs contain acetaminophen, from Alka-Seltzer to NyQuil to Sudafed and Excedrin. However, even a “doctor’s choice” for colds, allergies and fevers can be dangerous!
Every year, more than 56,000 people will visit the emergency room due to acetaminophen overdoses. It’s the leading cause of calls to Poison Control Centers.
It’s the leading cause of acute liver failure, causing nearly half of all cases!
#5 Dangerous Pain Medication: Salicylates (Aspirin)
Salicylates are commonly known as aspirin and acetylsalicylate.
For so long we have heard, “An aspirin a day keeps cancer at bay.” But have you heard that higher doses or prolonged use at the lower dose—even in buffered or coated form—can double your likelihood of perforated ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding?
Furthermore,
Research shows 90-95% of Reye’s Syndrome cases were preceded by taking aspirin. The disease devastates internal organs, particularly the brain and liver—and at least 10% of those affected will die even with early treatment.
Thankfully, you don’t have to put your health – and life – at risk with these dangerous pain medications. The good news is you can relieve pain without harsh side-effects and avoid the adverse drug reactions and dangers of aspirin, ibuprofen, opiate-based meds, acetaminophen and cox-2 inhibitors.
The Healthy Back Institute has uncovered 12 of the most potent and natural pain relievers in the world after 7 years of intense research and development.
Their hard work, determination and perseverance has created a list of the most effective anti-inflammatory and natural pain relievers so that you don’t have to do the hard research work.
Obviously the website listed above is the topic of discussion, not my own. In reading this article, esp. pertaining to the opiate based pain relievers, it discussed the 16,000 annual deaths attributed to opiates. I can’t dispute the figures, but this is a totally irresponsible manner in which to portray drug abuse. Many of us, (yes, myself included), have to rely on “something” to alleviate sometimes excruciating pain cause by injury or chronic conditions. Taking these medication “responsibly” is NOT going to cause death in my humble estimation. I appreciate good information, but I abhor unnecessary “scare tactics.” If you can’t back your statements with more concrete evidence than nation-wide drug addition, perhaps you shouldn’t be making such reports at all.
