Our Christmas Party Calorie Burning Contest…
Christmas parties consumed the last week of December 2007 for our family.
It was great to see everyone again, and eat good food.
But, as usual, everyone ate too much food.
So, I came up with a little “calorie burning contest”… which didn’t make people very happy…As a creatively naturally healthy guy, I thought it would be good fun to have a little “calorie burning contest” at my wife’s extended family Christmas party last Saturday!
So… while at my wife’s aunt & uncle’s house, I made a list of everyone there (5 and older) and put them on the contest list. I explained to everyone that, to help get a start on our 2008 New Years Resolutions (of losing the extra weight we gained by eating too many Christmas goodies), we were going to have a fitness contest – divided into three age groups, and three categories:
#1 – Jumping Jacks for 2 minutes – who could do the most? (1 point for each).
#2 – Head-Shoulders-Knees-Toes for 3 minutes – this is where you have to touch each part (basically like touching your toes) as many times as possible. (I did 123 and was VERY sore the next day… in fact, I’m still sore today!) One point for each “cycle”.
#3 – Hold out your arms straight for as long as possible. This was tough… most people bailed within 5 minutes. The winner was my 9 year old son, who held them out for 30 minutes! (1 point for each 10 seconds).
We tallied up the scores and declared a winner for each age group (50+, 18-49, and under 18).
The winners received $25 gift cards to either Barnes & Noble, Bath & Body, or Olive Garden.
Here are some pictures:
Head & Shoulders, Knees & Toes 🙂
Jumping Jacks
The Champion – Arms held out straight for 30 minutes!
So now, I’m sure, my wife’s extended family HATES me!! Well, not literally… but, if they’re as sore as I am, I’m sure they’re grumbling a little bit.
Happy New Year 2008! Make it your best year yet!

Joe, i really enjoyed the news letter. I love the enthuseasm. I also loved you telling me about your Christmas and all the Blessing you all have. I also have a great blessing. My husband is sick, he is undergoing radiation for Prostate cancer. He had surgery in 1990, and we thought it was cured, but it came back. They seem to think that this will take care of it. So that was a great blessing for us..When you write me a letter it a pick me up. I know that you are a great person. And i will be doing more things when he gets better.. Also My son-in-law has a rare form of cancer and has hed to retire. He is doing ok right now but there will be more surgerys later. His is called Carcionoid. It was caught late but so far its been two years and now he has four more tumors on his liver. That eill be twelve in all. But they are not going to take them off right now. They are small and can`t see them with out the contrast dye.. I had a hard time but i am thankful for the things i have..Take care and remember Us and write me. I love hearing from you… God Bless Margie

thank you for sharing with me and with other people.you don’t seem to be needing our help at all with such a great family.I’m so sorry for Margie Stork. It wasn’t a great year for me and I’m still having troubles with my blood pressure especially after eating out ( I found a new job that is great but keeps me out part of the day). Thanks again Sandra

Hi, just a line to say how nice it is to receive your e mails. Not always about selling things but about how The Lord has Blessed you and your family. I also wanted to send Margie Stokes a word of encouragement. My friend Paula has been suffering from a rare form of Cancer. She is a 42 year old lady and this is supposed to be an old mans disease (Non Hodgkin’s Mantle Cell Lymphoma). She received a bone marrow transplant in may 2007. Just before Christmas the wonderful news was that there is no sign of Lymphoma on her scans. She has gone through such a lot. What between being so sick she has hardly eaten for 8 months, and getting a super bug infection in her catheter line. Shingles, you name it. We all believe its the power of Prayer that has brought her though it all. We had people all over the world praying for her.The additional blessings that we received were the fact that she was allowed home Christmas day to spend Christmas with her family! God is good!
So we are all facing a New Year with Blessings that only God knows are in store for us. It is so nice to here your way of counting last years blessings and looking forward to 2008 and what God has in store for us all.
God Bless and keep you all in 2008
