Valentine’s day is the day when we go above and beyond to let the love of our life know how much they mean to us.  It is considered by many to be the most romantic day of the year!

Unfortunately, a romantic evening between you and the love of your life can dissolve quickly if you are lacking libido.  It really isn’t your fault if your sex drive isn’t what it used to be.  There are 2 very strong factors that can get in between what you are wanting to desire.

Sex Hormones

One of the most common libido-busters is our hormones!  This is especially true for women and for men primarily over 50.  Low testosterone is often the culprit for both men and women as well.  As men age, their testosterone levels naturally decrease. They lose testosterone and experience a drop in hormone levels and often experience a loss of energy, decreased sex drive

and can even experience erectile dysfunction.

However, you can maintain youthful testosterone levels with supplementation and bio-identical hormones.  Check with your natural practitioner about getting a hormone panel performed.  If your testosterone levels are low, a bio-identical prescription can make dramatic changes in your libido in less than a week!! You will see improvements in libido, memory, energy, sleep, sex drive, as well as weight loss and improved heart health.

Women are strongly affected by testosterone levels as well. Testosterone is an essential part of most every aspect of sex: from interest to orgasm. A little bit of testosterone can go a long way in improving looks, figure, energy level, outlook on life, sex appeal and sexual fulfillment.

A woman produces testosterone primarily by the adrenal glands.  However, if the adrenal glands aren’t working properly, adequate amounts of testosterone are not produced. Muscle turns into fat, positive mood decreases, stress is more stressful and a drop in sex drive results. The primary reason why the adrenal glands would drop in their production of testosterone, brings me to the next point.

Stress Ruins Sex

Stress in your life can absolutely destroy your sex drive.  Chronic stress can drain your adrenal glands, greatly impeding the production of testosterone.  Stress is also a common cause of the dreaded erectile disfunction in men!  Some sort of stress is responsible for over 90% of health issues, lack of libido included!

Some people hold stress and don’t even realize that stress is causing their health issues.  I call it “stress stuffing.”  I am a stuffer myself and I am learning to change my ways as it has interfered with my health.  I have many times held onto stress, stuffing it in and piling more and more on top.   Stress stuffing disrupts normal body functions like immune function and hormone production.

Men are often stress stuffers because they are taught that emotions make them weak.  However, this stuffing and holding in stress can wreak havoc on your love life!

It affects you both physically and mentally.  It can lead to a lack of sexual desire, and can also interfere with the emotional connection you have with your spouse!

Low blood sugar and digestive difficulties can cause the adrenals to produce additional cortisol and adrenaline, which results in even more work for the adrenal glands which is added to all the emotional and physical stress in our life.

Pray, meditate, and find someone you can open up to.  Do whatever you can to avoid stuffing your stress!  Your physical health will dramatically change once your stress levels are down.  Your body cannot find hormonal balance when it is under extreme stress!

Let go of stress and watch your fear and anxiety melt away.  This will make room for your feel good hormones and neurotransmitters to do their job.  Love, joy, and desire will begin to make their way back into your life again – right in time for Valentine’s Day!

Supplements for Sex Drive

Although I do believe balanced hormones and stress are the greatest contributors to a lowered libido, I often recommend supplements for those looking for quicker results.

There are a lot of pills on the market, boasting big results and comparing themselves to Viagra.  This is just marketing hype!  Don’t be swayed by their giant promises!

There is one supplement I often endorse, called Hot Plants.  It was formulated by Chris Kilham, widely known as the Medicine Hunter.  He travelled the world over testing the herbs and extracts used in this formula. He wrote a book, also titled Hot Plants, that goes into detail about how each ingredient works in the body.

Hot Plants has both a male version and female version.  There are no harmful stimulants, which are in most over the counter libido boosters.  These ingredients are safe

and can also help naturally increase energy and lower stress levels!

A few of the ingredients include:

  • Maca – A root plant from Peru which naturally increases energy, balances hormones, and increases libido.
  • Rhodiola – Increases sexual health, lowers stress, and provides sustainable energy.
  • Yohimbe – (Male formula) Increases circulation and sexual function.  Can provide benefits for those struggling with E.D.
