The pineapple enzyme bromelain is a natural food to:

  • Prevent cancer
  • Fight cancer if you have it
  • Minimize the effects of radiation therapy that often causes as much damage to healthy cells as they do to cancerous cells

Even though chemotherapy has been the most common form of treatment for cancer in the U.S. for the last 4 decades, the “cure” – chemotherapy  – may be worse than the disease:

  • Ravaging the body
  • Tearing about the immune system
  • Risking normal bodily function

Thankfully, scientists are pushing to find natural cancer-fighting solutions.

Pineapple Enzyme Bromelain Destroys Cancer

One cancer-fighting solution kills cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone.  This compound acts with “selective cytotoxicity” – shrinking cancer cells while not touching normal living cells. However, science has been able to replicate what is found only in nature.

Bromelain, the enzyme found in pineapple, shows it is capable of this wonderful ability. The solution is found in the pineapple stem and fruit.  Small quantities appear in pineapple juice, but the best cancer-fighting power is the pineapple enzyme that digests proteins and it exhibits this ability, which is found in the stem and the fruit of the pineapple. You can also get small quantities in juice, but pineapple enzyme extract has the best cancer-fighting power.

The challenge has been getting these enzymes into your blood stream.  Because enzymes are usually broken down in the stomach, they can’t reach the rest of your body through the blood stream.

The good news is scientists are recently employing enteric coatings on supplements and pills that resist being broken down by stomach acid.  This design allows the enzymes to break down in specific locations of your intestines so that the full benefit is achieved – to do the most good.

Total body health is dependent on getting enough natural enzymes. By eating raw, organic fruits and vegetables, you have better digestion because the enzyme production stress in your body is somewhat relieved. The result of your body using these “fresh” enzymes in digestion is that leftover or unused enzymes can find and kill cancerous cells. BAM!

A great way to begin your day is with a fresh fruit and vegetable smoothie, abundant in natural enzymes. Do this on an empty stomach. This way, resources that would normally go into breaking down your food are instead able to bolster your immune system, strengthen your cells and fight illness.

Beyond

cancer, bromelain’s extremely high anti-inflammatory properties make it a natural treatment for arthritis and bowel disorders. Why is this important? Because….

Inflammation is believed to be a root cause of hundreds of diseases.

Diet is Key to Fighting Cancer

By now we should all agree that preventing disease is always preferable to fighting it. Rachael Stolzenberg-Solomon, PhD, MPH, RD, from the National Cancer Institute, has it right:

“The easiest, least-expensive way to reduce your risk for cancer is just by eating a healthy diet.”

A variety of fruits and vegetables should make up the largest portions on your plate. The bounty of eating healthy is less consumption of foods that are high in saturated fats or preservatives. Karen Collins, RD, nutritional advisor for the American Institute for Cancer Research explains,

“You’re looking at creating something for a lifetime. If each month or so you enjoy [one more vegetable], then that’s great.”

6 Natural Cancer-Fighters

1. Folate

Folate rich foods are high in this B-complex vitamin and protect against cell mutations.  These folate foods include:

  • Orange juice
  • Asparagus
  • Leafy greens
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Marmite™ – a yeast extract spread

2. Vitamin D

Vitamin D has shown in several studies (that continue to be ongoing because of such positive results) to inhibit cancer cell growth by as much as 50% in breast cancer risk cases. You can find vitamin D in:

  • Milk
  • Cod
  • Salmon
  • Shrimp
  • Eggs
  • (Oh yea, the sun!)

3. Kaempferol

Kaempferol is a flavonoid found in tea, which has produced remarkable success against ovarian and breast cancer. Drink your tea hot or iced – but do it year round for all the benefits.

  • Four cups each day is suggested.

4. Cruciferous Vegetables

The vegetables in the leafy family help protect against prostate and  colon cancers. Incredibly, mice with cancerous cell tumors showed a reduction in tumor size just one month after being treated with a substance derived from cruciferous veggies. I’m having a salad for lunch! Eat your leafy vegetables if at all possible in the raw state.  Only if you must, lightly steam cruciferous vegetables to ensure you trap the powerful antioxidants inside. Chew well and never microwave! Cruciferous vegetables include members of the cabbage family such as:

  • Kale
  • Broccoli
  • Spinach and other greens

5. Curcumin

Loaded with extreme anti-inflammatory properties, curcumin spice fights cancer while adding delicious flavor to your favorite meals. University of Texas biochemist, Bharat B. Aggarwal, PhD, says, “Among all the cancers we and others have examined, no cancer yet has been found which is not affected by curcumin. This is expected, as inflammation is the mediator for most cancer.”

  • The primary compound in curry powder (my favorite spice) is curcumin.

6. Ginger

Researchers are still trying to figure out exactly ginger works, but it works in two ways against cancer by adding it to your diet:

  • It kills cells while leaving healthy cells undamaged (apoptosis)
  • Ginger tricks cancer cells into digesting themselves (autophagy).

Inflammation and cell mutation is believed to be the core cause of cancer. Adding bromelain pineapple enzyme and these natural cancer-fighters to your diet will work to prevent cancer from forming in the first place.

If you have cancer, these foods will help control inflammation caused by chemotherapy, help you recover more quickly from surgical procedures, and protect the healthy cells in your body from further damage.
